What is Quito?

Quito is the capital of Ecuador. It contains a population of about 2.4 million. It was built on the ruins of ancient city. The weather in Quito stays mostly around a cool 64 degrees, so bring a small jacket.

The language spoken there is Spanish.  Some the dishes that are served in the many restaurants Quito has are Guata, Arroz con Menestra and Caldo de salchicha.

They only have two seasons: Summer and winter. Summer is known as the wet season and winter is known as the dry season. This is also where the jacket comes into play.

Volcanos in Quito

Another feature Quito has, that I thought deserved its own little section, is volcanoes. The city is surrounded by volcanoes. The closest one is located 6 miles from Quito and called The "Pichinchas". This is due to the three peaks it has. The names of the three peaks are Guagua, Rucu, and Padre Encantado. Guagua and Rucu are the higher peaks of the three. These peaks can give an inexperienced climber a taste of the high altitude  There is also another volcano located 90 minutes south of Quito and comes with the name Cotopaxi.
